Objective Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs,two major types being ulcerative colitis and crohns disease)are representative chronic inflammatory conditions of the colon and can increase the risk of developing the coloreetal cancers.Although there are several gene-engineered and chemically-induced animal models for IBDs,the complete etiology of IBDs is poorly understood. Thus,it is important to find novel molecules that are essential for the mucosal repair process from the colonic inflammation.Recently we have developed an adenomatous polyposis coli(Apc)-mutant rat, named a Kyoto Apc Delta(KAD)rat that lacks the extreme C-terminus of the APC protein.
