Recent advance in IL-1 biology suggests IL-1 play multiple roles in the CNS,ranging from neurophysiological functions to pathogenic activities including neuroinflammation and psycho-pathogenesis.The cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying these diverse effects of CNS IL-1 have been difficult to elucidate because IL-1 can act on numerous cell types in the brain and produce different activities via multiple signal transduction pathways.
