Vitellogenin (Vg) is usually considered as a female-specific protein associated with vitellogenesis, while it can be induced in males by environmental hormones.Interestingly, in the mud crab Scylla paramamosain, we detected the expression of Vg-like in the testis of the normal physiological males.Gene cloning has found that SpVg-like cDNA is 8316 bp, and SpVg-like gDNA is 9903bp the same as the SpVg gDNA.Sequence analysis showed that SpVg-like cDNA retained the first three introns of SpVg gDNA, which was called intron retention, when compared to SpVg gDNA.Taking into account the genome of SpVg-like and SpVg, we confirmed that, they belong to a same gene with different alternative splicing.
