Content: In the genome ofMyxococcus xanthus DK1622, there are five loci encoding sodium efflux systems.Two (NhaA4 and NhaA5) are composed of six or seven open reading frames (ORFs), while the other three (NhaA1, NhaA2 and NhaA3) are single genes.The predicted proteins have typical motifs of Na+/H+ antiporter proteins that promote the extrusion of sodium ions along with the internalization of protons, thus being suggested to be associated with sodium and pH homeostasis.
