Sol-gel Preparation of Optically Transparent Fluoride Super-hydrophobic Hybrid Coatings

  Super-hydrophobic coatings are a special type of surface coating with a surface static water contact angle greater than 150° and a dynamic water-roll angle less than 10°.A three-layer composite super-hydrophobic coating was developed and characterized.Firstly, three different sols were prepared separately by sol-gel process.Then,with the dip-coating method and heat-treatment, the three sols are sequentially applied to construct the underlying layer, structure layer, and modifying layer.The morphologies, optical transparency, mechanical properties, and hydrophobicity of the films were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy as well as hardness, adhesion, and water contact angle measurement.The results showed that the composite coating obtained a contact angle as high as 155° and exhibited a visible light transmittance high than 70%.
