Cerebral infarction is a common and frequently encountered disease,which is mostly onset in people after middle age.For its severe complications and high ratios of disability and mortality,peoples health and life is seriously threatened in this aging society.In the recent 20 years,the research on the basic neuroscience is greatly developed and the pathologic,pathophysiologic and biochemical mechanisms are rapidly developed all over the world.Especially in the molecular biologic fields we have made a lot of achievements.VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) has been shown to have some potential therapeutic function in many ischemic lesions as a powerful protein of angiogenesis.Clinical gene therapy for restenosis and angina using VEGF gene have already performed in USA and they can show beneficial effects of such strategies.However,it is still so confused that whether VEGF plays a good therapeutic role in ischemic stroke,including the safety and working mechanisms.
