A molecular robot is an autonomous system consisting of molecular devices implementing sensors, actuators and computers.It observes its environment by its sensors, and autonomously reacts to the environment by making judgments by its computers, i.e.,information processing elements of the system.In this talk, I first introduce progresses of our recent research project, called "Molecular Robotics", funded by MEXT, Japan.In addition to developing new types of molecular devices, it is constructing two prototypes of molecular robots, called "amoeba robot" and "slime mold robot".The amoeba robot is made of a liposome, an artificial membrane made of lipid, with molecular devices on or inside the membrane.It is expected to react to its environment by protein motors as actuators.
