The gaseous hormone Ethylene is produced in all higher plants and is usually associated with fruit ripping and abscission (or shedding) of leaves and flowers.Its biosynthesis starts from methionine,which converted to 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) by the rate-limiting enzyme ACC Synthase (ACS),therefore regulation of this enzyme is critical for the ethylene biosynthesis.Other than fleshy fruits,the release of ethylene in dry fruits,such as legume (soybean),is normally low,and the measurement of ethylene evolution is limited and difficult.In this present study,a direct detection system mediated by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used to measure the activity of soybean ACC Synthase.
