In Western countries, physicians have the highest suicide rate of any occupation.Research in the United States has found the physician suicide rate to be 2.7 times higher than age and gender matched men and women in the general population born in the same years.Especially striking is that female physician, unlike women in the general population, having suicide rates equal to their male counterparts.
