Biological nitrogen fixation is the major source of fixed nitrogen in the oceanic N budget.Current estimates of nitrogen fixation flux are around 100-200 Tg N a-1,which is significantly lower than the major oceanic nitrogen sink of 300-400 Tg N a-1 via denitrification.
