The power authorities, and National Governments and TAs that are responsible for our public lighting system are, by nature, highly conservative. The uptake of new technologies on the existing networks is therefore not going to be rapid. However, some TAs are seeking to improve public lighting systems despite some resistance from the organisations that actually run them. This may mean that control systems might lag in terms of uptake rates but the adoption of new technology with luminaires and light sources continues and the experience gained on green-field installations will eventually feed back into the older sections of the network.
