It is beyond question that formalized clinical physics training programs and certification processes have elevated the professional status and of clinical competence of medical physicists and have improved the quality of patient care in the jurisdictions adopting such formalized credentialing pathways.However,the approach taken in the United States has posed significant challenges to the medical physics research enterprise.
