Infectious diseases of viral origin cause major aquatic production losses in different parts of the world.Because of formidable barriers for gastrointestinal tract, skin and cell, large amounts of antiviral drugs have limited therapeutic effect.Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as a novel material may play an important role in addressing these barriers due to its nano-scale.Here, we show in a pilot study that increasing drug intake was observed by functionalized SWCNTs carrier and therapeutic dosage is significantly reduced to block vertical transmission of grass carp reovirus (GCRV) in Gobiocypris rarus larvae.In addition, the toxicity of functionalized SWCNTs in larvae can be minimal, and normal markers remained within normal ranges following treatment.
