Fruit maturation and ripening represents both a unique developmental process of plants and important contributors to agricultural productivity,food security and human nutrition.Plants provide the major components of human diets and fruits represent a significant portion of plant agricultural output.Fruit ripening influences quality,nutritional and storage characteristics that greatly influence final product quality and profitability.We use tomato as a model system for fruit maturation and have participated in the development of several important genomics and molecular resources that are publically available and used by the research community including deep EST resources,numerous genomic libraries,a public gene and metabolite expression database and a high quality genome sequence.
