Pure and rare-earth ions (Nd3+、Tm3+、Dy3+、Ho3+、Pr3+) doped NaLa(WO4)2 crystals of good optical quality were grown successfully by Czochralski technique method,the coefficients of thermal expansion along (100) and (001) directions were measured,and the DTA,TG properties of NaLa(WO4)2 crystal were studied.We also measured the infrared and Raman spectra of NaLa(WO4)2 crystal,the vibrational characteristics were studied.Spectral properties of rare-earth doped NaLa(WO4)2 crystals were studied.The large absorption cross-sections and FWHM for the 800nm absorption bands of the Nd3+:NaLa(WO4)2 and Tm3+:NaLa(WO4)2 crystals indicated that these crystals were preferable to be pumped by the GaAlAs laser diode (LD).Laser characteristics of Nd3+:NaLa(WO4)2 crystal were measured using the Xenon flash-lamp as the pumping source.Under 1.28J pulsed excitation,we obtained 14.77mJ laser output,the maximum overall efficiency is 1.15 %.
