The epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor (EGFR) is expressed in a variety of different cell types,and controls diverse events including cell growth,apoptosis and differentiation.The aberrant activation of EGFR is frequently implicated in cancers,and upregulation of the receptor is clearly associated with impaired prognosis of cancers.Indeed,the EGFR activation can enhance the ability of cancer cells to succeed in multiple steps of initiation,progression,and metastatic processes such as cell motility,adhesion and invasion.Therefore,the elucidation of a molecular mechanism underlying the receptor activation is a crucial step towards an understanding of cancers and the development of anti-cancer drugs.
