Unique among the known plant and animal viral suppressors of silencing (VSRs), the 2b protein, a Cucumber mosaic virus encoding VSR, exhibits complex biochemical and subcellular targeting activities. These include binding to short/long siRNAs and AGO proteins and targeting to the nucleus and nucleolus. These endow the 2b diverse silencing suppressor activities including suppression of RNA silencing in cytoplasm and DNA methylation in nucleus.
