The contamination of uranium around nuclear weapon testing and nuclear storage sites caused serious environmental problems due to uranium toxicity, microbial adsorption of uranium is thought to be a potential way to control and remediate uranium contamination.A strain Staphylococcus aureus isolated from contaminated site was showed to resist more than 6 mM uranyl acetate. The washed cells were resuspended in 6.4 mM uranyl acetate solution which contained 0.1 M sodium chloride, the colony forming units(CFU) changed from 3.17*108 to 6.21*107 after 6 hours, 2.52*105 CFU remained after 12 hours and 4.25*102 remained after 24 hours, 93.45% ofuranyl acetate was adsorbed after 6 hours,47.21% was adsorbed in 12 hours and 20.89% was adsorbed in 24 hours, the adsorption of uranyl by washed cells decreased with the decreasing of CFU due to the toxicity of uranylacetate.
