　　"Risk" is a household term in Japan,but its definition varies according to subject matter."Risk assessmenf" also carries various meanings:even within the limited scope of chemical substance risk assessment,it is used with varying effects.Risk assessment of chemical substances has been defined in the 1983 U.S.National Research Council (NRC) Report,"Risk Assessment in the Federal Govemment." This report separated risk assessment and risk management.
