Phakopsora ampelopsidis, a heteroecious macrocyclic fungus, was a sole cause of Asian grapevine leaf rust (GLR), until its species structure was resolved by life cycle, host preference,morphology, and molecular phylogeny.The real GLR pathogen was identified as P.euvitis, being separated from P.ampelopsidis s.s.on Ampelopsis and P.vitis on Parthenocissus.
