  Many microbes are able to use n-alkanes as sole carbon and energy source, especially the genus Dietzia, which is well known for its novel abilities in a broad-spectrum alkane degradation.These strains can be potentially applied in bioremediation of petroleum-contaminated soils.Therefore the genetics of alkane metabolism has been studied widely and deeply.
