Cold agglutinins can be a serious problem in patients who are having open heart surgery using a low temperature environment such as general hibernation and cold blood cardioplegia.These cause a situation for suitable activating cold agglutinin and lead to broad blood agglutination,hemothorax,inappropriate distribution of cold blood cardioplegia,myocardial infarction,renal failure,liver failure,brain damage,and damage to other organs of the body.A 70-year-old woman,who had undergone CAG 6 times and has been on medications for her unstable angina since 1997,visited our hospital for a CABG operation due to her on going chest pain which began in May of 2003.
