Room-temperature ferromagnetic semiconductors are required to manufacture proposed semiconductor spintronic devices.While Co-doped ZnO is an exemplar of this class of materials, its ferromagnetic properties often are poorly reproducible and its origins remain controversial.In this article, we unravel the mechanism of magnetism observed in Zn1-xCoxO thin films that were grown on A12O3 and ZnO substrates.
