Diatomite,skeletons from unicellular organisms,is a naturally occurring porous material which is rich in silica.The intrinsic porosity and high silica content make this an interesting raw material for ceramic processing.In this study,diatomite powder,and Brazil nut shell ash(BNS ash),a residue resulting from burning of nut shells in boilers,were used to produce solid porous ceramics.
