The influence of Fe2O3 on the formation and decomposition kinetics of calcium sulphoaluminate formed from tricalcium aluminate and calcium sulfate was investigated in this paper.Rietveld quantitative analysis was used to get the mineral compositions.Thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) methods were also introduced to detect the formation and decomposition of calcium sulphoaluminatc. Results showed that 1 wt.% Fe2O3 accelerated both the formation and decomposition of C4A3$, resulting a decrease of approximate 50 ℃ for the formation and decomposition temperature. The formation and decomposition activation energies obtained by isothermal method for 1 wt.% Fe2O3 were 184 ± 25 kJ/mol and 523 ± 17 kJ/mol,respectively.The optimal formation region for C4A3$ was from 1150℃ to 1300℃ and from 8 hours to 1 hour with 1 wt.% Fe2O3, which could provide useful information on the formation of C4A3$ containing clinkers.
