FTIR provides an effective means of performing rapid, non-destructive, label free analysis of specimens according to their vibrational modes. However, as water absorbs very strongly in the IR region, it is difficult to analyse aqueous solutions in transmission mode using this technique. This paper describes the design and operation of a novel microfluidic device which provides an effective solution to this problem. The chip facilitates detection in solution.while control of the channel depth minimizes the absorption of the water.
