This paper reviews next generation drying technologies provided by a newly developed dryer,namely Despatchs DriTech,and its integration into the back end of line.The new technologies include unique top/bottom independent controlled drying and optimization,ultra-low drying temperature and extended drying window,superior thermal stability and repeatability,and advanced airflow control and thermal profile flexibility.These new technologies result in low drying temperature (as low as 145℃),wide drying window (as wide as 80 ℃).A back-end-of-line thermal integration was demonstrated by implementing three DriTech dryers and Despatchs CF firing furnace into the back end metallization line at a high volume cell manufacturer.The effect of superior drying stability and repeatability and unique top/bottom independent controlled drying on cell performance was investigated over a two month period.An average efficiency improvement of ~0.1% absolute is achieved,as well as a ~2.0% absolute reduction of low performing cells,a ~1.8% absolute increase of high performing cells,and significant increase of Rsh,resulting in improvement in cell efficiency distribution.In addition,the mass production related advantage and benefits such as zero maintenance,low cost of ownership (CoO),and an almost 100% volatile organic compound (VOC) oxidation rate are demonstrated.
