The organic cation/camitine transporter (OCTN2) is a high affinity cation/carnitine transporter widely expressed in human tissues, including skeletal muscle,kidney, brain, heart,and placenta.OCTN2 is essential for L-camitine transport in humans[1]Mutatious of the OCTN2 gene in humans cause primary systemic camitine deficiency, with clinically significant symptoms that include hypoketotic hypoglyce mia,cardiomyopathy, and skeletal myopathy.[2,3] Use of OCTN2 transporter as a target to change the pharmacokinetic properties of drug in the body is a new bright spot in the field of oral drug delivery.
