Strength and stiffness are two most important properties of a structural material.From a viewpoint of structural analysis, any fiber reinforced composite can be regarded as a combination of a series of unidirectional (UD) composites.In the current literature, one can easily find out various micromechanical formulae to calculate stiffness properties (elastic constants) of a UD composite, such as rule of mixture formulae, Eshelby's method, Halpin-Tsai formulae, Mori-Tanaka's theory, Chamis formulae, self-consistent method, etc., to name a few.
