Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common sarcoma of the gastrointestinaltract and arises from the interstitial cells of Cajal.Most GISTs contain receptor tyrosinekinase (RTK) KIT and platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRA) consititutively activatingmutations, therefore oncogenic KIT or PDGFRA tyrosine kinase mutations are compellingtherapeutic targets in GISTs.
