The dispersion behavior of CeO2 nano-particles in different ratio of alcohol-water mixed solutions (include 100% ethanol and 100% deionized water) has been investigated through measuring Zeta potential and solid particle concentration in suspension after ultrasonic dispersion, and considering sedimentation and absorbance of the suspension after leaving it to stand for 10 days. The dispersion mechanism is preliminary explored. The result shows that dispersion ability of CeO2 nano-particles presents the pattern of increase first and then declining with the decreasing content of ethanol in alcohol-water mixed solution. When ethanol content is 40%, the dispersion of CeO2 nano-particles reaches the best, not only far better than that in 100% ethanol and 100% deionized water, but also better than that in the alcohol-water mixed solution with silica fines being the optimal proportion (1∶1) reported in related researches. It is suggested by analysis that dispersion of CeO2 nano-particles in alcohol-water mixed solution is closely related to the solvation of dispersion medium towards particles.
