The Single-Pass RF Driver (SPRFD) is a patent- pending conceptual design for a heavy-ion driver for commercial fusion power production [1,2].The beam parameters specified in the SPRFD design are intended to be optimally compatible with direct-drive target designs having cylindrical geometry.Targets designed for cylindrical rather than spherical compression are a natural fit with heavy-ion drivers,and have several advantages for cost-effective power production,including a clear pathway to realizing fast ignition.Heavy-ion fast ignition,by an on-axis segment of the same beam used for compression [3,4] or section of beam with heavier atomic mass and lower kinetic energy [1],is a promising method for achieving highefficiency,high-gain inertial confinement fusion (ICF).
