Quantum walks with discrete time are unitary analogs of classical random walks.I will concentrate on their similarities as in the notion of ”first return” embodied in the ”renewal equation” and then show the many differences that result from interference phenomena.There are some unexpected results with a topological interpretation.The important role of the(scalar or matrix valued)Schur function of the appropriate measure will be emphasized.
