Because restricted molecular rotation is the inherent mechanism responsible for the aggregation-induced emission(AIE) of propeller-shaped luminogens,1 intermolecular hydrogen bond(H bond) interactions were therefore used for the purpose of imposing rotational restriction on AIE-active luminongens(AIEgens). In theory, preferable H bond interactions can be used to lock the molecular conformation of AIEgens to result in rigid conformer with high emission.
