Southeast Asia is known for its exceptionally high biological diversity and endemism.Herein, we investigate the relative role of these historical processes in the genetic evidence for endemism of a Rice grasshopper, Oxya japonica, which is a pest of rice in Southeast Asia.433 individuals collected from five countries were analyzed by using two mitochondrial DNA sequences to examine whether phylogeographic pattern and population genetic is related to past geological events and/or climatic oscillations.
