Isolation and identification of phase I metabolites of osthole in rats

  Osthole is one of the major components ofCnidium monnieri (L.) Cuss with the structure of an isopentenoxy-coumarin [1].It has been used in the treatment of skin disease and gynecopathy [2].In recent years, its diverse pharmacological activities, such as anti-oxidant, antitumor, and estrogen-like effects, were reported.In present paper, the metabolism of osthole in rats was investigated by identifing metabolites excreted into urine.Ten phase I metabolites ofosthole were isolated from the urine of rats after an oral dose of 40 mg/kg, and their real structures were identified on the basis of wide spectroscopic data including 2D-NMR technologies.
