Decision making is essential for the survival of animals and is the origin of the rational aspects in our lives. From a neuroeconomic standpoint, to make value-based decisions is to evaluate the costs and benefits of alternative options. It is worth noting that in primates, the DA neurons projecting from the ventral tegmental areas (DA system) to several cortical areas (prefrontal cortex, striatum, and basal ganglia) code properties such as reward prediction error tracking that provide explanatory power for decision making.
