Background, Motivation and Objective Focused Ultrasound (FUS) has a variety of potential uses, including therapeutic treatment of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Capsule endoscopy is already a key interest for researchers for the diagnosis of GI conditions such as inflammation, Crohns disease and neoplasms and has the potential to be developed for treatment by incorporating a FUS transducer and associated drug delivery (DD). This paper describes a tethered capsule for targeted drug delivery (TDD) of GI conditions. We also compare piezoceramic (PZ) materials for the transducer to be housed in the capsule.
