Our research has been focused on food safety,including rapid detection technology for foodborne pathogenic microorganisms,pesticides and residues of antibiotics and other veterinary drugs,providing theoretical guidance and technical support for food safety research in China.We have developed several new rapid and sensitive detection systems for food-borne microbial contaminants based on the genetic,immunological,biochemical,molecular,and physicochemical methods.For instance,we have developed the multiplex PCR and liquid chips technologies that could detect the contaminated microorganisms and distinguish death or living bacteria in short time(a few hours).We have established an antibody-based screening platform for food-borne pathogens,generating antibodies not commercially available in China.We also are developing an automatic,high-throughput detection instrument for food safety monitoring and detection with improved efficiency and shortened detection time,which can be used in food industry,food safety relevant enterprises,and governmental research and regulatory agencies.For the detection of pesticide and veterinary drug residues,we have constructed a new yeast expression system for DmAChE,which can be used for detecting organophosphate and carbamate insecticides with high sensitivity and reduced costs.In summary,these studies exemplify our efforts to promote advanced sciences and technologies in food safety research and development in China.
