Cotton fiber,a highly elongated single-cell differentiated from ovule epidermal layers,is an ideal model for studying cell elongation and cell wall biosynthesis.Cotton fiber development consists of four major overlapping stages: initiation,elongation,secondary cell-wall deposition,and maturation.Cell wall deposition begins ~16 to 18 DPA(day post anthesis),and the process of cell wall biosynthesis determines fiber yield and quality.However,the regulation of transition from cell rapid elongation to second wall deposition remains poorly understood.
