With the ageing issues being increasingly prominent in China,researches on elderly facilities become more and more important and urgent.In this paper,by studying and analyzing the situation of accessible environment in elderly facilities,we try to provide some meaningful suggestions which can be useful to improve the eldersliving qualities in the facilities.We selected three elderly facilities in Shanghai as our objects and recorded the elderspractical living situation by field investigation methods,such as observation,behavior tracing and interviews.After analyzing from the perspectives of physical environment and barrier behaviors occurred in it,we clarified the following facts:1) In the aspect of the physical environment,all the facilities can meet the lowest requirements from national accessible codes,but the degrees of the accessible situations are quite different.2) Many barrier behaviors occur in daily life,because there is hardly any further construction of accessibility beyond the codes.3) Since barrier behaviors have deep relations with the physical accessible environment,it is important to enhance the consciousness of accessibility by the operators as well as the designers.
