Adzuki bean rust, caused by Uromyces appendiculatus, has been considered as one of the most serious diseases of adzuki bean in China.Disease investigation in the west of Heilongjiang province showed that the most adzuki bean production areas had nearly 100 percent incidence, serious plot even devastated. However, little information about the primary source of infection and life cycle of U.appendiculatus on adzuki bean in Heilongjiang province has been reported to date.In order to clarify whether the teliospore of U.appendiculatus can overwinter in Heilongjiang province, the teliospores were collected at October and monitored the teliospore germination rates, which subjected in different conditions including stored at room temperature, 4℃,-20℃, hanging outdoor and underground 10cm.The results showed that the teliospore can germinate after treated in the above 5 conditions after 7 months, but with significantly different germination rate (29.9%、 21.2%、 35.2%、 6.8% and 23.1%, respectively). In addition, the results also showed that 27℃ with darkness is suitable for teliospore germination which stored at room temperature, the germination rate is up to 36.7%.In conclusion, the results indicated that teliospore of U.appendiculatus can overwinter in Heilongjiang province, which shed light to clarify the primary source of infection and life cycle of adzuki bean rust, and provide important clues for designing strategies for effective prevention and control of adzuki bean rust.
