When a set of genes (proteins) appear and disappear simultaneously from many different species, it suggests that these genes are likely functionally related. We developed a novel Bayesian method to infer such functional relationship among the genes by directly modeling the phylogenetic relationships among the species.Dirichlet process priors were employed for modeling the number of such functional groups.Simulation studies and experimental validations show that the method is superior to other heuristic approaches.
