Objective The current study explored the effectiveness of the CWMT on working memory, transfer effects of CWMT to other untrained cognitive task performance, as well as the neural correlates of brain activity during task and brain structural connectivity.Methods Three acquired brain injury patients (traumatic brain injury (patient A, male, 41 years old);hemorrhage stroke (patent B, male, 35 years old);ischemic stroke (patient C, male, 52 years old)) with WM deficits voluntarily joined in our study, ten normal adults were recruited as baseline.The three patients received CWMT training which was performed five times a week for 30 minutes during four weeks.All Participants were tested twice on measures of working memory (n-back, digit span and spatial span), fluid intelligence (2nd Edition of Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI-II) and other behavioral performance (Ravens Advanced Progressive Matrices (RAPM),Stroop color-word test, the Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test (RBMT), Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (CFQ) and Everyday Memory Questionnaire (EMQ)).Measures of Neuroimaging performance (task fMRI (n-back) and DTI) were also conducted before and after CWMT training.
