With the immensely emphasized importance of addressing sustainability and minimizing the environmental impacts of the construction industry, sustainability credentials of construction materials are increasingly becoming more important.Currently produced at a rate of >3 Bt/year, Portland cement (PC) is the most widely used construction material in the world. It is responsible for 5-7% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions, due to a combination of the decomposition of limestone and high calcination temperatures used for the process (1450℃).Therefore, there are major global pressures on the cement industry to reduce its emissions.
