Protein electron transfer (ET) is critical to biological function and the long-range ET in proteins has been extensively studied for past decades. Here, we present the short-range protein ET and the dynamics is ultrafast and nonequilibrium in nature and strongly coupled with local protein/solvent relaxations. We will systematically examine several protein systems to show how to observe such nonequilibrium dynamics experimentally and thus how to understand on the molecular basis the ET dynamics in proteins at the short range.
