　　We consider the problem of testing the symmetry of a continuous distribution about a specified median.Various tests proposed in the literature were reviewed including tests based on the empirical distribution function, tests based on ranks and tests based on runs.Simulations were conducted to compare the various tcsts in terms of their power performance.
