  Background Gene therapy, especially nucleic acids mediated RNA interference (RNAi), has been use in both basic research and clinical trials.Cationic polymers have often been applied as nucleic acids delivery carriers both in vitro and in vivo.Due to their positive charges, cationic polymers are able to combine with anionic nucleic acids to form polyplexes via electrostatic interactions.3-aminopropyl methacrylamide hydrochloride (APMA), a primary amine containing monomer with a methacrylate backbone can be used in RAFT polymerization.Due to its positive charge, poly APMA is able to form a polyplex with anionic nucleic acids via electrostatic interaction and protect shRNA from enzymes degradation.
