The pregnane-X-receptor (PXR) regulates the expression of biotransformation enzymes and transporters for drugs and steroid hormones.Thereby, it influences cell proliferation and tumor growth.In hormone-sensitive tumor cells, PXR regulates estrogen homeostasis by targeting phase Ⅰ biotransformation enzymes., hormone-inactivating sulfotransferases (SULTs), ATP-dependent drug efflux pumps (e.g.P-glycoprotein, ABCG2), and uptake transporters from the organic anion transport polypeptide family OATP.
