Ectomycorrhizal fungi commonly form mutual symbiosis with fine roots of predominantly woody plants such as Fagaceae and Pinaceae. An important feature of this symbiosis is the supply of fungus-derived phosphate nutrients to their host plants.Fungal phosphate (Pi) transporters mediate the uptake, translocation and repartition of this nutrient between fungi and plants.
